As far as journeys go, I can safely say that I never expected mine to lead me here, writing recipes, for all to see and use. I love cooking, I always have and food has always played a massive part in my family. Food is at the heart of every social gathering we ever had. We didn’t have much when I was younger but my mum knew how to make the best of everything. I have learned everything I know from my mum who shares my passion for good food. Needless to say she is the Oracle when it comes to all things Pakistani cuisine, she’s my walking, talking encyclopedia!
Growing up with colourful tastes, has made me experiment with all different combinations of spices and flavours and like most British born Pakistanis of my generation, I have developed this huge cross over between different food cultures. There’s definitely an East meets West thing going on in my house, in fact it’s more of an East meets West meets North meets South (and every combination in between!)
I want to share what I’ve learned with you. I want you to care about what you eat and how you eat it. I’ve had to change many aspects of my diet due to health reasons and it’s amazing how much we don’t know about food and what it does for our health.
I do my best to keep my wheat intake to an absolute minimum and I’ve even dabbled in a plant based diet (which is tough let me tell you) but both of these changes were a real eye opener for me. Tiny changes in our diets can have a huge impact on our wellbeing. Cooking food from scratch is definitely a step in the right direction. Steering ourselves away from processed food is a difficult task, we all have tight schedules, which is why I want to share my own tips and tricks to make life easier for you. Cooking doesn’t have to be a mammoth 2 hour task, it can just as easily be done in a fraction of the time if you have the right recipes to guide you.
Use my recipes verbatim or as a guide, whatever suits you. Experiment with different ingredients and get a feel for how they affect the flavour of your food. You’ll quickly learn what works best for you and how different seasonings compliment each other. That, my friend, will be the beginning of a long, happy relationship between you and your kitchen!
Want a helping hand to start you off? Hop over to my shop and take a look at the spice blends I’ve knocked up for you to try. All the help you could need in one tiny packet. Whoever said size matters?! And if thats not enough, if you want me in your kitchen, then get your hands on my book (coming soon). I’ll be right there at your fingertips, your own personal curry guide making you the curry king or queen just one little tip or trick at a time.
Enjoy!
